Air Filter Logic

I feel like I’m missing the rationale for having holes in the air filter cover on my 03 Wombat. It would seem to just allow air to bypass the filter media. I cleaned (ultrasonic) the carburetor before taking it on the bad rock and when I pulled the air filter to clean it afterwards and looked in the...

Muffler Spark Arrestor for a 175

Looking for some advice on possible compatibility for my 175 project. It’s nearing completion but I’m running into problems finding a muffler /spark arrestor that will fit. The only FMF I’ve seen so far for either 1.25” or 1.50”. The OD of my pipe measures 1 3/8 and I’m not seeing anything that look...

Rear shock identification

Trying to ID the rear shocks on my 03 wombat. Obviously not stock. Haven’t found any markings on them saying who manufactured them. Best rear suspension I’ve ridden on a Hodaka yet. Would like to get more if possible for my other bikes. Anyone know what they are? They’re 13.5 eye to eye (if it matte...

Re: 03 Wombat spark issues

Thanks for the responses. I did disconnect the kill switch, so it was absolved of guilt. I haven’t touched the points yet. That seems like a good next step. I’ll try to get in there tomorrow and clean them up. I was thinking some acetone and emery cloth or very fine sandpaper. Are there any other re...

03 Wombat spark issues

Looking for some guidance on a recent spark issue that came up with my Wombat following Hodaka Days. Quick background on the problem. She ran fine for the Bad Rock and performed without issue. Started up fine when we rode her to line up for the Parade then when we were actually taking off she was re...

Re: Swing arm removal

Yes I removed the shaft stoppers and pried on the opening a little to see if it would loosen up. From the schematic it looks like you’re supposed to drive the swing arm shaft from right to left since there’s a zirk fitting on the left side. I dont know if I’m supposed to remove the swing arm bushing...

Swing arm removal

Any tips or tricks on removing the swing arm on a 175? I’ve tried driving it out but it hasn’t budged a millimeter and I feel like there’s some retaining piece I’m missing. Never had an issue getting the swing arms off any of my 100/125 displacement Hodakas. Obviously they made this cat a bit differ...

Super Rat Mashup

Looking for advice in the best way to approach a potential Super Rat project. I’ve got a complete model 93B that’s in good shape and an extra model 98 frame laying around. I picked it up in a batch of Hodaka parts I bought several years ago and just never did anything with it. The 98 frame is In goo...

Thanks Ed, I’ve been meaning to join the club and just kept forgetting. All joined up now. Now to start reviewing the back issues. I’ll also look into those bearing drivers. Might be a good addition to the tool box.

250 ED project

Looking for any tips on replacing the wheel bearings on a 250 ED. I don’t have a shop manual and I’m not sure they even made one. At least not that I’ve run across. The front doesn’t have a snap ring holding the bearings in place. I’ve hammered on them and heated them, then hammered some more. Wonde...

250ED Flywheel removal

Looking for some guidance on removing the flywheel on my 250ED. The flywheel is obviously not like the one on my ACEs for which I have a flywheel puller which works fantastic. Since there aren't any threads on the inside of the flywheel I'm assuming this isn't an issue of getting a puller similar to...

Re: Plastic tank repair

I think it’s an original tank, it has HODAKA in raised lettering on either side of the tank (same coloring so it blends in). Not sure how else to tell if it’s a later reproduction. I do have some JB weld but wasn’t sure how an external application would hold up. What would happen if one were less th...

Plastic tank repair

Just found a small crack on the bottom of the Clarke tank on the 250 ED. I’m not seeing any options online for tank liners that are compatible with plastic tanks. Just want to see if anyone knows of any options for sealing up a plastic tank before I resort to trying plastic welding.

Re: 250 ratchet plunger

Thanks Darrell, I was able to get it out finally. Once optimism, determination and will power gave out, pure dumb luck stepped in. I was using a polishing wheel on my electric drill to clean up the casing when the plunger popped out even farther than it had before. I thought it had reached the end o...

250 ratchet plunger

Just getting into a 250 project and one of the first orders of business is the shifter assembly. Took it apart and trying to get the old grease etc cleaned out and I ran into a issue with the ratchet gear plunger. This is different than the model 92 style I’m used to dealing with. I’m wondering if a...

Re: Hodaka help in Oregon

Thanks for all the advice and unfortunately accurate suggestions. I did not replace the clutch side crank seal, or any other for that matter when I was in there. Guess that’s what I get for trying to do this on the cheap. I’m working on a model 92B(+)? I did re-hone the cylinder and put a new piston...

Re: Hodaka help in Oregon

Rebuild help, compression issues for sure. Maybe carb tuning... hard to tell until the compression issue is fixed. Was drawing oil from the crankcase into the cylinder also. Tried to fix that but now no compression, so I don’t know if that issue even got resolved. Kinda feel like I’m chasing my tail.

Hodaka help in Oregon

Anyone know of a good mechanic who knows their way around a Hodaka in Oregon? I think I’ve reached my limits in terms of mechanical aptitude on several projects and wouldn’t mind having more of an expert take a crack at them. I know several that have been recommended on the other side of the country...

I’m sure he’ll be able to fix that crack without much issue. I’ve got a model 61 in addition to this new 250 so I’m despe...

Hello, I’m lucky the one that ended up with the 250. I guess I just happened to be looking at CL at just the right time. Of course now I’m trying to figure out just how lucky (or unlucky) I really am with having to find parts for the thing. It’s mostly there, biggest thing is the shifter mechanism i...

175 engine options

Ok I know this is a long shot but I’m desperate for 175 parts and after a year of looking I’m starting to weigh other options. I picked up a 175 rolling project last year and it was about 95% complete. The major problems were a missing shifter cover and mechanism and kick start lever. The engine cas...
