Tank value

Post by Yamadaka »

What would be a fair price to pay for this tank with cap and petcocks?

Part prices can be all over the place - lots of variables.
Assuming the tank is clean inside, no leaks, threads all good, no dents, chrome finish is rust free, tabs are all straight, and includes the cap and working/non-leaking petcocks - I would guess anywhere from $75-$175, depending on who is selling and who is buying.
I'm guessing it's an Ace tank (more common than Super Rat tanks).
Then again, I've seen terrible tanks bring way more, and great tanks bring way less - just hard to nail down a specific price on them.
If you want to use it, it's important to know the inside condition and whether it has any leaks (from rust pinholes or stress cracks at the seams).
Anyway, hope that helps

The chrome still looks nice and there appears to be no dents which is a big plus if you ever want to re-chrome. Restoring the chrome tanks gets very expensive (I've done two) and even more so if you have dents to pull out. Dent free tanks are rare. Rust and leaks are fixable. There is currently an Ace 90 on eBay with an NOS tank which the seller claims cost $500 (plus good luck finding one). Depends on how bad someone wants the tank but my guess would be that this tank would bring at least $200+ on eBay.

Just following up on a chrome super rat tank similar condition to this tank sold on eBay yesterday for $565.00. There's gold in them there Hodaka parts (the rare ones anyway).

So what is the consensus on this tank? Is it an Ace tank?

Looks to wide in the rear to be a Super Rat tank. Another way to determine this is by measuring the tank capacity. The Super Rat tank is 2 gallons. Ace tank is 2.75 gallons.

Hard to say without setting them side by side, but the photo tank is a dead ringer for mine, which is a 100B+ tank, 2.75 gallon. That would make it more like an ACE 90/100 than a Super Rat. Still, it looks in good condition and if you need a period correct tank, there it is.
