Re: Wombat 94A rims
It was -4 (wind chill) with a howling wind in Kansas this morning. I'm really bored and am in between projects (can't you tell). So, I shot a couple of pics of the restored fenders for you. Not perfect, but at least the nostalgia part is perfect! I left the holes for some enduro lighting options -- ...

Re: More History -- Ace90
After reading Laurie's adventures about the ISDTRR in the new Resonator (Yes I read it cover to cover),I saw a picture of the fellow on the cool Zundapp who was also cool and 79 years old.(even older than me!) His name was listed as Bob Canfield. I hope I can be that cool at that age!

Re: Wombat 94A rims
The fenders had white coat of oxidation that looked hopeless. I even ordered some new UFOs and while I was waiting for them to arrive I tried wet sanding the old units. Slowly they began to shape up. I then painted them with Krylon Fusion paint for plastic. That stuff really sticks and is flexible a...

Re: Wombat 94A rims
It's the same bike, It's the bike I rode in ISDT RR in Oklahoma in October.(I had to restore it again after the event!) The pipe is a Circle F I bought from Paul. The bike must of had a racing past with aluminum rims and Preston Petty fenders. I refurbished the fenders and wheels which came out quit...

Wombat 94A rims
When I brought this 94A home from the barn, it had D.I.D. Japanese rims on it. Are these stock or aftermarket?

Re: Road Toad Project
The sizes we have been discussing seem to be in stock at most major tire sellers dealing in Maxxis. (love that name). Maybe you can find some of the other weird sizes in that brand. Good luck!

Re: Road Toad Project
Thanks Bob-I checked Allmoto site and still no big block knobbies for 17/19 sizes. After checking the Maxxis home site spec page I found that their 100/100-17 M7-305 is 4.3" wide and should fit in RT swing arm. Looks as if this might be the hot set-up for 99RTs. The matching 19 is 70/100-19 M7-...

Re: Road Toad Project
Hey Brian, Thanks for your input. The bike will be used for trail only, but we do want some aggressive tires. Maxxis was the only tire I could find in the 19/17 size. I also checked the 100/100-18 on my off road 94A. It measured 4.7 inches and is real close with no chain guard. I think it will proba...

Re: Road Toad Project
Maybe I should re-phrase that question- will a 100/100x17 tire fit in the swingarm-and will the 70/100x19 be a good match for the front? 19 and 17 knobbies are hard to find-that is the reason we were considering the 21/18 option. Opinions appreciated!
Thanks!

Re: Road Toad Project
We found a good buy on a pair of Maxxis knobbies size 70/100x19,100/100x17. Will these work on the RT?(99)
Thanks!

Re: Road Toad Project
We are considering changing out the stock wheels on the 99 Road Toad to a 21/18 combo. Any input on the best way to proceed? We could lace up new wheels and if so, what type/brand is preferred? Or, does anybody have any used units for sale?
Thanks, Maxie
Thanks, Maxie

Re: More History -- Ace90
After looking through my wife's pictures I found this shot of the Zundapps in impound. You are right. It is a 125 GS. The one next to it appears to be a little different model. What's your prognosis?

Hey Scribbler,
I met this guy from Canada at the ISDT RR riding a vintage Zundapp. Is this bike in attached picture the same model you talked about? It was really cool.

Timing the Hodaka
I see all kinds of ways to time/set points. Here's my accurate method. Purchase a battery powered continuity light. (The one I used in the shop 40+ years ago is shown). Hook one wire to ground (crank case) and the other to one of the two wires coming from the points. (Black in my case.) The light sh...

Re: More History -- Ace90
This is really funny. The number one quote when someone first sees this bike is, "My wife wouldn't let me hang a motorcycle in the living room!"
I tell them. "You have the wrong wife!"

The carb is a 32mm Amal concentric. Earlier in its non-reed life it had a 32mm Amal monoblock.

More History -- Ace90
More History - Ace 90 After following CURTISHARVIE's "Restoration Ace90" it reminded me of the purchase of my first Ace90 in 1965. (The BSA was broken again.) Two friends and I purchased the first Hodakas in town and rode them every available waking moment for months. What fun they were! I...

Re: Road Toad Project
Question: After assembling this engine I found Hodaka Service bulletin HSB-19 (#99 Road Toads were after my time in the Hodaka business), which called for replacing the head and modifying the exhaust port bridge. I got the bridge figured out, but how do I know if I have the later head? All parts lis...
